Snooker & Billiards Ireland held a one-day Intro Level Snooker Coaching Education Course on Saturday the 4th of April in the SBI Academy of Excellence in Carlow to qualify five new SBI Coaches.
Fionn Nagle from Dungarvan, Mark Maher & Mark Warnock from Dublin and Gary Spencer & Justin Thomas from Donegal attended this course which was given by our WPBSA & SBI National Coach PJ Nolan. This course was approved by Sport Ireland Coaching who governs Coaching in the Republic of Ireland.
Fionn Nagle and Mark Maher have been involved in the SBI game for a number of years and they were joined by Mark Warnock, Gary Spencer and Justin Thomas who are new to SBI. Disability Coach Dylan Rees also attended to learn more about coaching. All six have a passion to grow the game within their club and pass on the skills to anyone who wants to learn Snooker.
- Course Syllabus
The Intro Level Course is designed for SBI members who want to start coaching within their local clubs. The course covered everything in the approved coaching syllabus featuring Playing Techniques, Role of the Coach, Training Routines plus the Rules of the Game.
- Congratulations
SBI National Coach PJ Nolan congratulated all five on beginning the coaching process and SBI feel having more qualified coaches is so important in helping grow the game all over Ireland.
Latest Training Aids
The coaches were shown the latest training aids like the AQ Technique Expert, Mini Domin Eye, QLine, Blade Cue, Master Doctor, Str8aim SA-1 & SA-2, Chris Henry Balls, Academy laser, EBSA Coaching Balls to help students on the line of aim and develop a smoother stroke in his delivery.
- Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare Awareness Course
All five will now need to attend a sport partnership 3hr Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course in their own area. These courses are organised by their local sports authority through the Sports Council. CLICK HERE
All coaches Garda Vetted
All coaches will need to complete the Garda vetting before being presented with his Intro Level Accreditation SBI Certificates.
New SBI Coaches
PJ said it was great to have five new coaches part of our SBI coaching Team. All the new coaches were delighted with the content and they received all the course files to study more.

- Course Costs
The course cost was €25.00. All the coaches must also be paid members of Snooker & Billiards Ireland for the season with the cost of €40.00. Snooker & Billiards Ireland would like to thank everyone for attending the successful course and wished them good luck with developing their coaching skills.
