Today Wayne Doyle defeated 8 times Irish champion Eugene Hughes in the final of senior billiard ranking event 6,
The first round seen a total of 8 matches been played, Wayne started the day in good form against Tommy Murphy with breaks of 148 the days highest break with a magnificent 258 and a string of other 50+ breaks put him into the next round, next into round 2 was billiard new comer Noel lynch who had a good win over Ciaran Doyle. John Kehoe was next to get his name into the second round with the closest match of the day In beating Kevin Christie by 8 points when time was called, the last man into round 2 of the top half of the draw was 6 times Irish champion Larry drennan with steady scores had a comfortable win over Brendan devlin,
Into the bottom half of the draw and first player through was Eugene Hughes, playing high quality billiards best Darren Ryan with the aid of a nice 107, and 69, next through was Jason dowling who had a good win over Aonghus mc anally in a another close game could of went either way but Jason scored the more consistent to come out victorious. Next we seen Lloyd myers make a welcome return to the ranking events and started the day off well with a comfortable win over Robert Mc Crum, last into the second round was Aidan Murray in a low scoring match got the better of John Downey,
Round 2 matches started with Wayne having a comfortable win over billiards new comer Noel lynch. John Kehoe getting the better of Larry drennan for the second event in a row , Eugene Hughes getting revenge on his loss to Jason dowling at the last event and Aidan Murray having a good battle against Lloyd myers to reach the last 4.
Into the semi final and Wayne and John was nip and tuck for the first 20 minutes then Wayne getting the balls to the top had breaks 3 breaks over 70 to pull away from John and reach the final, in the other semi final it was a close battle for the whole 90 minutes with Eugene always ahead but only by a slim margin, with 5 minutes to go it was anyone’s game with both missing shots they would expect to get, Eugene composed himself and held onto the table and the vital time.
Into the final with two Dunloaghaire men in the final and 14 long up Irish titles between them
Seen Wayne get off to a flying start with breaks of 119 and 115 to give him a commanding lead. Eugene struggled to make any in road into the deficit to leave Wayne a comfortable winner when time was called,
