Noel v Adam in SBI 21’s National Final

No. 1 seed and defending Champion Noel Gleeson will play No. 2 seed Adam Halnon in the 2025 Snooker & Billiards Ireland (SBI) National U-21 Snooker Championship Final. Both players were in excellent form in the National Championships which was held in the Snooker & Billiards Ireland HQ in Carlow on Saturday the 26th of April.

The final will be played during SBI Final weekend in May in the SBI HQ in Carlow and it promises to be a fantastic match to end a brilliant U-21 Season with PJ Nolan’s 147academy was the title sponsor for all the Junior Tours this season. The current High Break stands at 56 by Noel Gleeson.

Play commenced at 10am in the 2025 SBI U/21 championships. 17 of the top young players in Ireland were in the draw and TD PJ Nolan welcomed all for this prestigious event. A high standard of snooker was evident throughout the day. The tournament will be played down to the final which will take place in the SBI centre during finals weekend.

Semi Finals

In the first Semi Final Noel beat fast improving Aaron Donnelly from Newbridge CYMS but the young kildare man had great win on the way to his semi final but Gleeson showed his pure class to get the victory. In the other semi final the young Wexford man played with great confidence against the 2024 National U-18 Champion Ronan McGuirk from R & R SC and it was the young man from Gorey who won and will play in his first National Snooker Final.

This season will be holding four ranking events in 21’s and a National 21’s Championships. Start time for all matches in the 21’s will 10.00am. The Entry Fees for all Junior events is set at €10.00 each.

Dates & Venues

  • Event 1: 21’s TOUR 1 – 28th September – SBI HQ Carlow – WINNER RONAN McGUIRK
  • Event 2: 21’s TOUR 2 – 9th November – SBI HQ Carlow – WINNER ADAM HALNON
  • Event 3: 21’s TOUR 3 – 18th January – SBI HQ Carlow – WINNER NOEL GLEESON
  • Event 4: 21’s TOUR 4 – 9th February – SBI HQ Carlow – WINNER NOEL GLEESON
  • Event 5: 21’s NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – 26th April – SBI HQ Carlow
  • Finals Weekend 16th – 18th May – Final will be played during finals weekend

Players should be aware that all entries are through the on line system and you have to enter before the closing date of Thursday at 1pm prior to each event.

Dress Code – National Championships

Failure to meet with the Dress Code Guidelines will result in being removed from the event.

  • In the National Championships, one coloured shirt buttoned at the wrist and Waistcoats can only be worn
  • Bowties are also required for all matches during Championship finals weekend.
  • National Waistcoats are not permissible at any SBI National event.

Junior Development

€1 entry fee will be offered to any Under 21 Junior player to compete in any of the three Adult open tours for the coming season. This is to encourage more juniors to attend adult events, gain experience, watch and play our leading players and be hopefully be motivated to improve more.

Format

Matches are played in a the best of 5 frames knock out format in roll on and off basis in the venue. The Q-Final, Semi Final and Final are the best of 5 frames
