2016 Celtic Challenge Camp with PJ

On Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th of June, RIBSA held a Junior Snooker Training Camp for the upcoming Celtic Challenge in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club with our National Coach PJ Nolan to help our players prepare for this year’s event which takes place in Wales on Saturday the 25th of June.

The Under 16 Team : Ross Bulman Youghal CYMS, Aaron Goldrick Cavan, Fergal Quinn Cookstown, Ronan Whyte Northwest SC, Sean Devenney Northwest SC and Mark Gleeson New Institute SC.

The Under 14 Team : John Landers Youghal CYMS, Aaron Hill Crucible SC, Sean Walsh Crucible SC, Noel Gleeson New Institute SC, Joe La Cumbre Portarlington SC and Luke Bateman Kilkenny Shed.

All the players were all in superb form during the camp where they practiced Long Potting, Safety, Match-Play and Break Building routines. The players practiced from 11am – 4pm and PJ worked on their mind fitness on the psychology of the game in order to prepare their best for the event.

Star of the first day was Mark Gleeson who won the first Match-Play and Break Building challenges while Ross Bulman won event 2 in style with top breaks of 124 on the (X Break) and 104 (Rocket Break) and 84 on the (Thailand Break).

On day two Aaron Goldrick won the Break Building Challenges with 49 Reds on the (5 Reds Break) and 86 (Colours Break) while young Ryan McGuirk had 42 Reds (5 Reds Break).

Chairman Jim Leacy was in attendance to wish all the players good luck in Wales and he was very impressed with all the talent on show like Aaron Hill, Sean Walsh, Ryan and Ronan McGuirk, Aaron Smith, Oisin and Luke Bateman, Noel and Mark Gleeson, John Landers, Joe La Cumbre, Ross Bulman, Aaron Goldrick and the players were joined by Brazilian U-21 International player Matheus Pontarolli who is preparing for the upcoming World U-21’s in Belgium.

Team Managers: Brendan Cooney has been appointed the Under 14 Team Manager while James Bateman will look after the Under 16 team and PJ Nolan will be the Coach of both team in Wales.

RIBSA would like to wish all the players and officials the best of luck in the Celtic Challenge on the 25th of June and RIBSA would like to thank Rodney Goggins for being there on the day to encourage the players and give the players tips on improving their game.

Finally RIBSA would like to thank Marion Leacy and the Ivy Rooms for the use of the tables and making the training camp a big success.

The cost of holding a RIBSA session is €20.00 per hour coaching time plus €20.00 per hour travel time from Carlow plus any tolls and parking.  If you would like to travel to the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow you can avail of a 2hr session for €65.00 which includes Lights, DVD of the lesson and Technique profile.
