New level 1 SBI Coaches Qualify

Snooker & Billiards Ireland held a” Level 1 Coaching Ireland” Snooker Education Course in the new SBI HQ Academy of Excellence in Carlow on the 20th  & 21st of November to qualify three new SBI Level 1 coaches from Dungarvan, Ballinasloe and Cappoquin.

New Qualified Coaches

Dylan Rees from Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, Paul Keighery from Ballinasloe, Co. Galway and Mike Doherty from Cappoquin, Co. Waterford attended this two-day Level 1 Course given by National Coach PJ Nolan on the (Role of Coaches + Playing Techniques + Rules of the Game).

Course held in new SBI HQ

The course was held in the new home of Irish Snooker in the SBI Academy of Excellence in Carlow. This level 1 training course is for only for SBI members who have previously completed the Intro Level course. SBI Treasurer John Tobin and SBI Board member Tony Thorpe were in attendance to congratulate the new coaches.

Course Feedback

Dylan Rees said ‘’ I am delighted to complete this level 1 course with PJ and become the new SBI National Disability Snooker Coach. My aim is to help grow the game on the national and International stage in the future by spreading awareness of SBI disability snooker.

Paul Keighery said ‘’ I am delighted to become a SBI Level 1 Coach. Having the recourse of the CD with the course files will help me grow the game in the Ballinasloe and Galway region and hopefully produce more players onto the National scene in the future”.

Course Syllabus

This SBI course covers the coaching skills in helping the coaches identify what is needed to start training players to a level 1 standard. The course started at 10am and ran until 1pm. Lunch was from 1pm-2pm and Restarted at 2pm till 6pm on each day.

Coaching Aids

During the course PJ presented various range of the latest Coaching Aids on the market to the coaches and explained in detail their importance.

Child Protection

The SBI Coaches also need to attend a sport partnership 3 hr basic awareness course that is organised by their local sports authority through the Sport Ireland.  Finally, the coaches need to be Garda vetted before being presented with the Level 1 Accreditation Certificate later in the season. At present SBI have 87 Intro Level qualified coaches all around Ireland approved by Coaching Ireland and we now have 22 Level One Coaches.

PJ said ‘’ I am delighted to have three new coaches from the Munster and Connacht areas. They have years of experience in the game and all three are a great addition to our SBI Snooker Coaching Team. It is also fantastic to have Dylan as our SBI National Disability Snooker Coach.
