EBSA Prague Day 6 – More Irish Success

Day six of the 2015 EBSA European Snooker Championship in Prague was another good day for the Irish players. Our three master players Keith Sheldrick, Tom O Driscoll and Alen Matic got things off to a great start in the morning session with three superb victories.

Keith Sheldreck opened with a 3 frames to 1 victory over Murat Ayas from Switzerland. Alen Matic put on his best performance so far in the event with a 3 frames to nil victory over Alexander Kuzmancevic from Serbia which included breaks of 45, 50 and 62.

Finally the pride of the Deise, Tom O Driscoll was up against Richard Kornberger from Austria, The Austrian won the opening frame with a 43 clearance after tom had a superb 53 break, The Waterford man then played three outstanding frames to win the match 3 frames to 1 making a 52 break in the third frame.

Keith has now has 4 wins from 4 matches, Alen has 4 from 4 and Tom has 3 from 4. The final round of round robin matches are being played tomorrow and all three are already safely through with one round of matches remaining.

Men Event

Current Irish Champion Brendan O Donoghue put on another good display with a 4 frames to nil victory over Antti Tolvanen from Finland. Greg Casey had to dig deep when he found himself one nil down, 2-1 down and 3-2 down against Richard Van Leeuwen from the Netherlands but the Cork man produced good snooker to force it to 3-3 but he lost on the final black 4 frames to 3. John O Sullivan had the day off today.

At present Brendan has 6 wins from 6 matches, Greg also has 5 from 6 and John has 2 wins from 5 matches.

Ladies Event

Michelle French was involved in another 5 frame battle against Aleksandra Wojtecka from Poland and the Irish International never gave up after being 1-0 down and 2-1 down. Michelle forced the match into the decider before losing it on the final pink to lose 3 frames to 2.

Ronda Sheldreck played Jennifer Zehentner from Germany. The German played superb snooker to win 3 frames to nil but Ronda played good in the match but she was playing a very experienced player today playing at her best.
