On Saturday the 17th of October, RIBSA held an Intro level Snooker Coaching Education Course in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow with Jason Dowling and Thomas Enright from Rathkeale in Co. Limerick and RIBSA Chairman Jim Leacy from Carlow
The course was given by our National Coach PJ Nolan and was approved by Coaching Ireland who governs Coaching in the Republic Of Ireland. This one day Intro Level Course is designed for RIBSA members who want to start coaching basic skills in their local clubs.
The course covered everything in the approved coaching syllabus featuring Playing Techniques, Role of Coaches, Training Routines plus the Rules of the Game.
All the new Intro Level Coaches will now need to attend a sport partnership 3 hr course basic awareness course in their own area organised by their local sports authority through the Sports Council. Finally they will need to complete the Garda vetting before being presented with their Intro Level Accreditation RIBSA Certificate.
PJ said it is great to have three new coaches with years of experience in both Billiards & Snooker as Jason Dowling is the reigning Pat O Sullivan Memorial Billiards Champion, Thomas Enright already coaches within the Rathkeale Snooker Club and Jim Leacy wanted to complete the course to get an insight into how our RIBSA coaching courses are ran.
The course cost was €30.00 which included soup and a sandwich. All the coaches paid their €15.00 membership of the Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association for the 2015 / 2016 season.
All three coaches were delighted with the content and how the course was organised and If you would like to attend the next coaching course in 2016 you should contact PJ on 086 8634507 or email pjcoach147@hotmail.com.
At present RIBSA now have 78 Intro Level Qualified Coaches who grow the game all over Ireland and are approved by RIBSA and Coaching Ireland who are based in Limerick University.
