This weekend 27th/28th May SBI held the National Senior Championship in SBI HQ where we had 31 entries in this event. After 2 fantastic days’ snooker it was Rodney Goggins who becomes National Senior Over 40 Champion.
There were a couple of shock results which included James Flaherty beating Mark Tuite 4-1 and Tommy O Donoghue beating John Farrell 4-2
After the first day of play we had our 4 semi-finalists
- Frank Sarsfield 4-2 James Flaherty
- Rodney Goggins 4-1 Tommy O Donoghue
Both Semis were fiercely contested but it was Frank and Rodney who came through to meet in the Final (best of 9 frames)
- Frank Sarsfield 0-5 Rodney Goggins
The Final
In the final the first couple of frames went scrappy but it was Rodney who took all four frames before the interval to lead 4 nil.
After the interval things didn’t change and it was Rodney who took the next to become the National Senior Champion for 2023 by beating Frank Sarsfield by 5 frames to nil
The high break of the tournament was 89 by Frank Sarsfield but it was Rodney Goggins who took the overall season high break with 129.
SBI would like to thank TD Shane Mason for running the successful event and to referee Conor Doyle for officiating at this event. Of course a big thank you must go to the players for entering and look forward to seeing everyone next season.
