Snooker & Billiards Ireland presented the 2023 SBI Hall of Fame Award to professional Snooker player Fergal O’Brien in the SBI HQ in Carlow on Sunday the 30th of April.
SBI President Jim Leacy and SBI Chairman Dylan Rees made the presentation to Fergal before the SBI Annual General Meeting.
” Ireland’s Fergal O’Brien captured his ranking event title at the 1999 British Open following a 9-7 victory against Anthony Hamilton in the final. A mainstay on the World Snooker Tour since first turning professional in 1991, O’Brien has been one of Ireland’s leading players for much of his career, reaching a high ranking of number nine during the 2000/1 campaign ”.
Many of Fergal’s family and close friends were in attendance today for his presentation. Fergal also signed his photo in the SBI Academy to mark his inductee into the SBI Hall of Fame.
The other 2023 Award winners were;
- SBI TD of the year award – Shane Mason
- SBI Coach of the year award – Tony Seymour
- SBI Referee of the year award – John Tobin
- SBI Player’s player of the year (OVER 21yrs) – Ross Bulman (1 vote per member)
- SBI Junior Player’s player of the year (U- 21) – Alex Currid (1 vote per member)
- SBI Club of year award – Dungarvan SC
- Services to Snooker award (Volunteer) – Arthur Greer
