Ernie McMullen won the third Super Seniors event of the season playing some wonderful Snooker which was played in the delightful CYMS Newbridge club in Co. Kildare. If there was a milk cart race, I think Ernie would have won that too. (Am I showing my age?).
In the first round, Ernie beat Eugene Hughes 3-1. I heard Ernie say these words to Eugene after they played “Nice to see you playing Eugene”. I think we all echo those words Ernie because it is wonderful to see Eugene playing, especially in our company too.
In the last eight Ernie beat Simon Scott 3-1 & in the semi-final against John McBride, Ernie won 3-2 on the black after John McBride potted the match ball pink only to see the white drop into the pocket after doing so. Another one in a long list that I have to suck up!
In the final, Ernie beat Patsy Farrell 3-2 in another closely fought contest. Patsy got to the final after beating Brendan Thomas 3-0, Tommy Murphy 3-0 & Nicholas Ryan 3-0 respectively.
The conditions in the CYMS Newbridge club were absolutely excellent, with new covers on the tables & it has to be said, the club is looked after really well & is always a lovely place to visit & play in.
It is also worth mentioning that the Anthony Quinn memorial tournament is back on this year after a break due to covid & is being played on the 3rd, 4th & 5th of March. Feel free to enter because as ever, you will be made to feel very welcome. Thanks for having us & thanks too for your kind hospitality.
As ever, these tournaments can’t be run without having someone to organise everything & to help things run smoothly on the day, so a thanks to John Tobin for being the tournament director on the day.
Always in sport, John McBride
