Current National Champion Brendan O Donoghue from Nenagh won the Snooker & Billiards Ireland (SBI) 4th Amateur event on the SBI Amateur Tour on Saturday & Sunday the 11th / 12th of February in the SBI HQ in Carlow.
In the final Brendan beat Greg Casey from Cork in a great final which was live streamed via our SBI you-tube page, but in the end of day it was Brendan who came out with a 4 frames to 2 victory to claim the title. The Highest break went to Davy Morris with a 134 break.
56 players entered this event and the standard was excellent with great match-play snooker over the weekend. With the large entry, it was decided to play the last 16 on the Sunday morning, this was to stop the long delays between matches for some players.
There was a number of shock results in the earlier rounds with Daniel Merrigan victory over No. 3 seed Stephen Bateman. Chris Humphries beat Noel Landers, Noel Gleeson beat George O Hara and Greg Casey beating the No. 4 seed David Cassidy.
In the last 16 Davy Morris beat No.1 seed Ross Bulman who had won the previous two events. Jonathan Williams had a fantastic run to the semi-finals while Greg Casey had an outstanding event in reaching another final.
