SBI National Snooker Coach PJ Nolan travelled to Ballinasloe Snooker Club in Co Galway on Friday the 9th of December to hold a Junior Development Snooker Coaching session. PJ was very impressed with the young talent on show and thanked SBI qualified Coach Paul Keighery and Ballinasloe SC for all their work in promoting the junior game in the Galway Region.
At present Galway Junior Snooker is leading the way on the national stage and tonight there were a number of different levels from new club juniors to players who have represented Ireland at recent junior International event plus the current Under 14 National Snooker Champion Max Kennedy.
Ballinasloe SC hold regular junior coaching sessions and this is organised by the current SBI Coach of the year Paul Keighery. SBI would like to thank all the players from Ballinasloe town plus all around county Galway and Offaly who attended tonight despite the bad weather in making it a successful night of Junior Snooker.
PJ who is a WPBSA World Snooker Coach worked on improving the players, Stance, Grip, Bridge, Cue Action and Address Position during the lesson plus outlining a number of key practice routines to work on. All the latest training aids were used like the Academy Laser, Master Doctor, Str8aim G-5 & SA-2, Chris Henry Balls, EBSA Coaching Balls to help to get players on the line of aim and develop a smoother stroke in their delivery.
All the players received a Christmas goody bag and a snooker medal plus a handout with the drills we used in the session plus key technical areas to work on.
PJ said it was fantastic to return to Ballinasloe SC and said what Ballinasloe are doing with their juniors is the model for all clubs in Ireland. This kind of promotion will help grow the game in the towns all across Ireland. We can see it already being successful in the Galway region with three leading junior players already on our Junior Rankings this season.
