The third SBI Amateur event took place over the weekend of the 26th/27th November in the New Institute club in Nenagh. Number 1 seed Ross Bulman from Youghal CYMS continued his fantastic form in winning it and beat Stephen Bateman from Kilkenny Shed 4 frames to 2 to claim his second amateur title of the season.
We had 39 entries for this event and by the end of Saturday we had 8 players left. There were a number of outstanding performances which included Philip Brown beating Rodney Goggins and an early meeting between the current National Champion Brendan O Donoghue and Davy Morris which Davy won 3-1.
Sunday morning saw the start of the Quarter Finals. The line up was as follows
Quarter Finals
- Ross Bulman 4-1 Jonathan Williams
- Mark Walsh 4-3 James Fennessy
- Ryan Cronin 2-4 Davy Morris
- Stephen Bateman 4-2 Philip Browne
Both Semi Finals were fantasrtic matches with Ross and Stephen just getting the better of Mark and Davy to set up a superb final.
Semi Finals
- Ross Bulman 4-2 Mark Walsh
- Davy Morris 2-4 Stephen Bateman
Final
- Ross Bulman 4-2 Stephen Bateman
The final was a very close encounter with the fist 4 frames shared before Ross took the next 2 frames to take the title. This is the second successive event which Ross has taken. We had a couple of centuries this weekend including a 135 from Ross Bulman but it was Davy Morris who takes the high break with a 136
