The first SBI Billiards Event of the season took place on Sunday 11th September at the Snooker and Billiards Ireland Academy of Excellence in Carlow. The format was best 3x150s with 10 players taking part. However there were two walkovers as two players were a no show so there was only pre quarter match between Joe Doheny and Brendan Devlin which Joe got the better of Brendan in two straight games.
In the quarter finals there were wins for Aidan Murray, Joe Doheny, Aonghus McAnally and also Anthony O’Flaherty who received a walkover from Niall Byrne. In the semi finals had a solid win against Anthony O’Flaherty with breaks of 68 and 55 in a 2-0 victory whereas Joe Doheny played really well to dismiss Aonghus McAnally to meet Aidan in the final.
The final itself saw Joe get off to a good start and was in the match until Aidan got a well timed 60 unfinished break to take the first game. Joe started well again in the second game and establisheda 30 point lead but once again Aidan got breaks of 56 and 67 unfinished to take the match 2-0 and win the first event of the season to continue his dominance of the Irish Billiards scene.
