Longford’s Joe Shannon won the second Snooker & Billiards Ireland U-14 Snooker Ranking event of the season in the HQ Academy of Excellence in Carlow on Saturday the 9th of April.
In the final Joe beat Max Kennedy from Athenry, Co Galway in a repeat of the first event of the season in a high quality final 3 frames to 2. Max went into a 2nil lead with great potting but Joe fought back to win the three remaining frames to secure victory in a great decider. The high break went to Joe with a good 31 break.
In the Semi Final joe beat fast improving Davy Hickey from Youghal 3 frames to 1 in a great match. In the other semi-final Max beat newcomer Aaron Donnelly from Newbridge CYMS 3 frames to 1. Aaron really impressed everyone on the debut and is a real star of the future.
The TD for the event was our National Coach PJ Nolan and he was very impressed with the player’s attitudes, commitment and overall standard of potting. I am very excited to watch how they will develop in the future in the years ahead.
The talented 12yr old from Longford maintained his perfect record after winning event 1 to protect his No.1 National ranking position but great improvements were seen in Max, David and Aaron so it promises to be an exciting National Championships in May.
The National Championships is being held on Saturday the 7th of May in Newbridge CYMS. The TD will be PJ Nolan and we would like to encourage all clubs to inform their young members of this event and help make the championships as successful as event 1 & 2 were.
These events are open to players under 14 on the 31st December 2021. Players should be aware that all entries are now through the on line system and you have to enter before the closing date.
