David Causier from England won the WBL Macau Casino World Match-Play Championship on Friday the 8th of April in the Snooker Billiards Ireland HQ in Carlow in front of a large audience of billiards fans.
In the final which was the best of 15 frame match in a modified short-format and baulk line crossing rules in operation. David Causier beat former World Champion Sourav Kothari from India in a fantastic final 8-3 to claim his 8th world title.
This event began on Friday the 4th of April and featured players from ten different nations with the top cueists from around the world competing for the world title. Ireland’s Aidan Murray, Larry Drennan, Joe Doheny, John Kehoe and Aonghus McAnally flew the Irish flag in the event.
In two fantastic semi-final matches Sourav Kothari beat Robert Hall from England 7 games to 3 while David Causier beat Dhruv Sitwala from India 7 games to 4 in the other semi-final. The final was refereed by our Irish International Referee Kevin Christie while John Kehoe was the marker for this prestigious world final.

Both tournaments the ”WBL Irish Open” and the ” WBL Macau Casino World Match-Play Championship” were hailed a big success. All the players were very impressed with our new Academy of Excellence and SBI will hope to stage more National and International Snooker & Billiards events in our new home in Carlow in the future.
