The first Snooker & Billiards Ireland Super Senior (over 55’s) tournament of the season took place today Sunday March 6th in Newbridge CYMS. Play commenced at 11 pm with a good entry of 15 going to post. 2nd seed Jim Carrick was the first of the fancied players to go out losing 3 frames – 2 to John McBride.
In the semi-finals Nenagh’s Patsy Farrell overcame Stephen Merrigan from Roadstone 3 – 1 and Brendan Thomas also from Roadstone accounted for Kevin McConville from Newbridge.
The final was a very tactical affair with Brendan taking the first two frames, Patsy came back to win the 3rd but Brendan took his chances in the 4th to run out the winner on a 3 – 1 score line.
Tournament Director Tony Thorpe thanked the players for supporting the event and looked forward to bigger and better tournaments next year. Tony also thanked Newbridge CY for their hospitality and for hosting the tournament.
