SBI held a Referee Seminar and Examinations in Cue Club Killarney Saturday 26th February. Shane Sexton from Limerick, Eamon Ryan from Cue Club Killarney, Jason Dowling from Limerick, and Gerry Russell from Cork a ttended this Seminar.
Connie O’Sullivans wife Patricia opened the club for us and helped with photos during the day. Thanks to Connie O’Sullivan for providing us with the facilities of the cue club for the day.
Ger Murray. Neil Shanahan and Shane Mason who were conducting the seminar were introduced to the 4 participants.
Ger Murray started the seminar by asking the candidates to set up the table at beginning of frame and explained the correct procedure. Neil Shanahan and Ger Murray went through all aspects of current snooker rule book asking candidates to demonstrate every aspect of the rule book. Ger and Neil gave a thorough explanation of all Rules and asked candidates a number of questions. Shane Mason assisted Ger and Neil and Shane introduced the Electronic Scoreboard and showed candidates how to use The Zapper correctly.
Each candidate refereed a frame of snooker using the
Electronic Scoreboard. Two candidates had not used this system before and Shane explained it to them.
After demonstrations and explanations, candidates were asked to ask any questions on what was covered in the seminar. Many questions were asked and answers were given.
The Seminar lasted about 6 hours.
Each candidate was passed as a class 3 snooker referee

All in all it was a very successful seminar achieving 4 new class 3 referees. Thanks to Shane Mason who helped in this seminar for the entire day.
