Saturday the 18th of December at 10am will see the opening event in the Snooker and Billiards Ireland’s (SBI) Brand new Academy and Headquarters creating history with the National Governing Bodies first members owned facility and it is ‘State of the Art’ in the World of Snooker and will rival any other European Venue.
Based in Craiguecullen right on the border of Carlow in the Leinster Town the venue continues the long tradition with Snooker and Billiards and now with eight top class championship tables in an environment totally committed to the game it really should be a fantastic feeling for players of all levels.
The 18th of December will also signal the start of the 2021 National Snooker Championships which will include all the elite Cueists in action over the weekend and with a full calendar of events towards the end of this year right through 2022 the new SBI Headquarters will be a hive of activity.
Chairman of SBI Dylan Rees said “It is a dream come true for everyone involved in the game in the Republic of Ireland where we now have our own permanent home that has Kids Coaching Q Zone’s top class facilities including four ‘Star’ tables and four ‘Shender’ tables in championship condition for our members to enjoy.
We are a not for profit organisation and our biggest ambition is to have everyone enjoy the place. We will have Kids Open Days, Kids Coaching Zones and we hope to get involved with schools to build a connection for the future with our sport. We want to be part of the community, not of only Graiguecullen and Carlow, but all of Ireland”.
Following the National Championships there will be a flurry of activity for the elite under-age players in their quest to play in the European Billiards and Snooker Association’s EBSA European Championships in Lublin in Poland in April.
Domestically there will be various things going on in the new HQ which anyone can follow on the SBI Website www.sbireland.ie or on Social Media Platforms.
It’s a game for everyone, it is all inclusive and most importantly is fun!
The new SBI facility will luckily have the Services of WPBSA World Coach PJ Nolan, plus an array of talent and talented players presently contesting and winning European Titles and past stars. The Academy has the sincerest backing and support of the many Professional players out there and is supported by Sport Ireland.
