The Dublin Region of the 2021 Irish Amateur Snooker Championship was split in to two venues in Pioneers SC and Roadstone SC this year.
In the Pioneers SC in Dublin on 4th Dec. 2021, there were 9 players scheduled to play thereby requiring a preliminary round between Brian O’Rourke and Kevin O’Brien which not only went all the way but actually ended up on a re-spot black which Brian O’Rourke took following (by Kevin’s own admission) a poor safety from Kevin who, at least, had the consolation of a 50 break.
In the top half of the draw Dessie Sheehan pushed Brendan Murphy all the way before losing 4-3 on the final pink. James Flaherty appeared to have no problem beating Andrew Harvey by 4-0. Brendan Murphy became the first qualifier when he beat Flaherty by 4-2.
In the bottom half of the draw, Joseph Keogh was a no show, leaving Patrick Smullen to wait on the outcome of Colm Gilcreest and Brian O’Rourke. A strong start from Brian should have seen him establish a 3-1 lead, but Colm had other ideas as took the match 4-2.
Colm had an easy passage to qualification against Patrick Smullen in a match that lasted less than an hour, including the day’s best break of 67, and took it 4-0.
