The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) recently published the 2022 Prohibited List (attached). The latest edition of the list comes into effect on January 1st 2022. Please use the Summary of Major Modifications and Explanatory Notes document (attached) to familiarise yourself with the changes. It is important that you notify the relevant athletes, teams, medical and support personnel in your organisation of these changes.
In particular, there are important updates to the permitted usage of salbutamol and glucocorticoids. I have attached a WADA paper on the use of Glucocorticoids in athletes and the general requirements of a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). This document will assist in understanding if a TUE is required in the event of glucocorticoid use.
*Reminder – Please ensure that athletes notify their doctor if they are on the Sport Ireland Registered Testing Pool (RTP), as this will have an impact on how physicians may prescribe medications as part of their treatment and determine the potential requirement for a TUE.*
