On Sunday the 1st of December, RIBSA held a one day Intro Level Snooker Coaching Education Course in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow from 10am – 6pm with Dylan Rees from Youghal, Michael Doherty from Cappaquinn, Richard Flynn from Waterford and Keith Kelly from Portloaise.
The course was given by our National Coach PJ Nolan and was approved by Sport Ireland Coaching who governs Coaching in the Republic of Ireland. This one day Intro Level Course is designed for RIBSA members who want to start coaching basic skills within their local clubs.
- Experience
The four coaches have years of playing experience with Dylan Rees a regular International RIBSA player and last month won the WBDS Disability Event in England. Richie Flynn is one of the most successful Intermediate players over the years while Michael Doherty and Keith have years of Club success within their own clubs.
- Course Syllabus
The course covered everything in the approved coaching syllabus featuring Playing Techniques, Role of Coaches, Training Routines plus the Rules of the Game.
- RIBSA Chairman Congratulations
RIBSA Chairman Ger Murray congratulate them on beginning the coaching process and RIBSA feel this is an important area in helping grow the game all over Ireland with qualified coaches within the clubs.
- Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare Awareness Course
All coaches will now need to attend a sport partnership 3hr Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course in their own area. These courses are organised by their local sports authority through the Sports Council. CLICK HERE
- All coaches are Garda Vetted
Finally all coaches will need to complete the Garda vetting before being presented with their Intro Level Accreditation RIBSA Certificates later in the year.
- New RIBSA Coaches
PJ said it is great to have four new RIBSA coaches with years of playing experience and passion for coaching. All coaches were delighted with the content and they received a CD with the course files to study more.

At present RIBSA now have 94 Intro Level Qualified Coaches who grow the game all over Ireland approved by RIBSA and Sport Ireland Coaching.
- Course Costs
The course cost was €30.00 which included soup and a sandwich. All the coaches must be paid members of the Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association for the 2019 / 2020 season with the cost on line of €17.00 per year.
