17 year old Ross Bulman from Youghal CYMS got his revenge over rival and friend Aaron Hill when he won the first IBSF / RIBSA Under 21 Snooker Ranking event of the season in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow on Sunday the 3rd of February.
The final was a repeat of yesterdays Under 18 final and Ross Bulman and Aaron Hill were again in excellent form on the day to reach the final. The final was again superb and in frame 1 Ross opened with a 41 break to control the frame to go 1-0 up in the best of 5 match.
In frame 2 Aaron got in early to build up a 40 point lead and controlled the frame to level match at 1-1. In frame 3 Ross got in first with a superb 78 break to put him 2-1 up and one away from victory.
In frame 4 Aaron got in first and made a fantastic 108 break to level the match at 2-2. In the decider nobody wanted to make that first mistake but it was Ross who got in first to make 27 to lead 35-5, Next chance again fell to Ross and a break of 12 put him 47-5 in front with 6 reds remaining. Many safety shots later Ross got in again to make a break of 46 to win the frame and match 3-2. He now goes Number 1 in the rankings for China.
- Semi Finals
In the semi finals today Aaron beat Mark Gleeson 3-1 while Ross Bulman beat Noel Landers in the other semi 3-0.
- Highest Break
Aaron Hill made the highest break today with a 108 break just piping his previous 99 break earlier in the day while Ross had a 93 break. National Coach PJ Nolan was again the TD and RIBSA would like to thank all the players for entering. The Ivy Rooms for hosting the event and Referee Conor Doyle for being in charge.
- CROWLEY WIN PLATE EVENT 1
Leone Crowley from the Cork won the plate event today when he beat Lewis Casserly 2-0. Leone beat Aaron Smith and Lewis beat Keilum Reid in the semi finals. RIBSA Congratulate Leone on his win.
The next Under 21 Event 2 is planed for the 10th of March in the Ivy Rooms SC in Carlow. You can now enter this event. You must text your entry to RIBSA on 085 2428701. This is a text number only and you must include your name, club and name of the event you wish to enter.
- Full Qualification System for IBSF U-21 Championships
The Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association have announced qualification for the 2019 IBSF World Under 18 and Under 21 Championships which will be held in 2019.
RIBSA will hold three International IBSF Ranking tournaments plus a National Championship. These events are open to all the underage players and if any player loses their first match on the day they can play in a plate event on the same day.
- Format
The IBSF International events will be the best of 5 frames including the final and the Plate event will be the best of 3 frames including the final.
- Closing Dates
The closing date for entries will be the Friday before each event @1pm and the draw will be then published on the ribsa web site at 3pm.
- Entry Fee
The entry fee is €10.00 plus Reg. Trophies will be awarded to the plate winner and runner up of the three events and a prize fund will be awarded for the International events.
- Tournament Director
This structure will be organised by our National Coach PJ Nolan who will be the Tournament Director. This Qualification will run from February to May to qualify players for the IBSF Championships in 2019.
- All juniors can qualify
All juniors have an extra chance to qualify for the IBSF events through the Senior Rankings as RIBSA will give the highest ranked junior on the senior ranking a qualifying spot at the closing date. This is to encourage more juniors to compete in our senior events.
