Sean Walsh from Crucible SC Cork won the first RIBSA Under 16 Snooker Ranking event of the season in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow on Sunday the 21st of October.
In the final both players had good wins along the way to qualify for the final but it was Sean Walsh from Crucible SC Cork who beat Ryan McGuirk from the R&R SC 3 frames to 0 in a superb match of attacking snooker to win the event and go number 1 on the RIBSA National U-16 Rankings.
Our National Coach PJ Nolan was the TD and he was very impressed with the talent on show ” He said he was happy to see new faces pushing the seeded players to break through on the day and the future is looking good in Ireland with so many talented young players.”
- Semi Finals
In the semi finals Ryan beat Keilum Reid from the Hawks Nest in Waterford 3-0 but Keilum showed his hard training is paying off. In the other semi Jack Newman from Fermoy got ahead first but Sean came back deny the Fermoy man. Jack will be happy with his semi final and will challenge again for Event 2 in November.

The Highest break on the day was 51 by young Alex Currid from Liam Mellows SC in Wexford.

The Plate event was also held for any player who loses his first match on the day and the winner was young Aaron Smith (separate report on web site)

It promises to more another exciting year of junior snooker with so many young talented Junior players looking to qualify for the Celtic Challenge, Home Internationals and World U-16’s.

The Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association have announced qualification for the 2019 Home Internationals and Celtic Challenge Teams
RIBSA will hold three International Ranking tournaments plus a National Championship in both age groups.
Format
The RIBSA U-14 & U-16 events will be the best of 5 frames including the final
Entry Details
You must text your entry to RIBSA on 085 2428701. This is a text number only and you must include your name, club and name of the event you wish to enter
Closing Dates
The closing date for entries will be the Friday before each event @1pm and the draw will be then published on the ribsa web site at 3pm.
Entry Fee
The entry fee will be €10.00 plus Reg. This can be paid on the day. Trophies will be awarded to the winner and runner up of the three events and a plate event will be held on the day for first round losers.
Tournament Director
This structure will be organised by our National Coach PJ Nolan who will be the Tournament Director. This Qualification will run from October to May to qualify players for the Home Internationals, Celtic Challenge and IBSF World U-16’s.
