Ross Bulman from Youghal CYMS won the first RIBSA U-18 qualification ranking event for the 2018 IBSF World Under 18 Championships on Saturday the 13th of January in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow.
Four RIBSA stars of the future reached the semi-finals stage with Ross Bulman from Youghal CYMS, Mark Gleeson from New Institute Nenagh, Aaron Hill from Crucible SC and Sean Devenney from Northwest SC all in top form in reaching the semis.
- In the semi-finals
Ross Bulman beat Mark Gleeson 3 frames to nil in a high quality match while Sean Devenney beat Aaron Hill 3 frames to nil in another great match to set up a Bulman Vs Devenney Final.
- In the final
In frame 1 Sean got off to a flyer winning it to go 1 nil up. In frame 2 Bulman fought back from behind in the frame to level the match at 1-1. In frame 3 Ross had a 43 break to go 2-1 up. In frame 4 Bulman went ahead early on and went on to win the frame and match 3 frames to 1 for a superb victory.
- High Breaks
The highest breaks on the day were Aaron Hill 60 and Ryan McGuirk 60.
National Coach PJ Nolan was TD on the day while Conor Doyle was the RIBSA Referee in charge. RIBSA would like to thank all the players, Officials and the Ivy Rooms SC for hosting another successful day of Irish Junior Snooker.
- Event 2
Event two will be held on the 17th of February in the Ivy Rooms SC and it promises to be another day of exciting match play snooker to select our players for the 2018 World IBSF Championships in China.

RIBSA will hold two more International Ranking tournaments plus a National Championships to qualify players for the upcoming International. These events are open to all the underage players and if any player loses their first match on the day they can play in a plate event on the same day.
- Ryan McGuirk Wins Plate Event
In the plate event it was Cian Murtagh from Classic SC Dublin up against Ryan McGuirk from the R & R SC in the best of 3 frame final. This event was very successful on the day and the standard but it was young Elite Squad member Ryan McGuirk who won the final 2 frames to 1 in an excellent match.

- Tournament Format
The International events will be the best of 5 frames including the final and the Plate event will be the best of 3 frames including the final.

- Closing Dates
The closing date for entries will be the Friday before each event @1pm and the draw will be then published on the ribsa web site at 3pm.
- Entry Fees
The entry fee will be €10.00 plus Reg. This can be paid on the day. Trophies will be awarded to the plate winner and runner up of the three events and a prize fund will be awarded for the International events.
- Tournament Director
This new structure will be organised by our National Coach PJ Nolan who will be the Tournament Director at all U-18 events. Qualification will run from January to May to qualify players for the IBSF Championships which will be held in July.

All juniors can qualify
All juniors have a chance to qualify for the IBSF Championships with this new system and players can also qualify through the Senior Rankings as RIBSA will give the highest ranked junior on the senior ranking a qualifying spot for the Championship. This is to encourage more juniors to compete in the senior events.
