On Saturday the 18th of October, RIBSA held an Intro level Snooker Coaching Education Course in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow with Robert Malynn from Shannonbridge, County Offaly and Paddy Hanafin from Thurles County Tipperary.
The course was given by our National Coach PJ Nolan and was approved by Sport Ireland Coaching who governs Coaching in the Republic Of Ireland. This one day Intro Level Course is designed for RIBSA members who want to start coaching basic skills in their local clubs.
- Coaching Syllabus
The course covered everything in the approved coaching syllabus featuring Playing Techniques, Role of Coaches, Training Routines plus the Rules of the Game.
- RIBSA Chairman Congratulations
RIBSA Chairman Jim Leacy and RIBSA Vice Chairman Ger Murray were on hand to congratulate both on beginning the coaching process. RIBSA feel this is an important area in helping grow the game all over Ireland with qualified RIBSA coaches spreading the word.
- Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare Awareness Course
Both coaches will now need to attend a sport partnership 3hr Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course in their own area. These courses are organised by their local sports authority through the Sports Council all around Ireland. CLICK HERE FOR EXAMPLE
Finally both will need to complete the Garda vetting before being presented with their Intro Level Accreditation RIBSA Certificate.
- New Coaches
PJ said it is great to have two new RIBSA coaches with years of experience in both Pool & Snooker as Rob runs the successful Westmeath Pool Association and Paddy is a current International Referee.
At present RIBSA now have 84 Intro Level Qualified Coaches who grow the game all over Ireland and are approved by RIBSA and Coaching Ireland
- Course Costs
The course cost was €30.00 which included soup and a sandwich. All the coaches must also be paid members of the Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association for the 2017 / 2018 season with the cost of €15.00 per year.
