The first events in the RIBSA Under 21 Snooker calendar was held in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow on Sunday the 17th of September.
International Tour players Ross Bulman, Noel Landers, Shane Bates, Aaron Hill, Stephen Bateman, Aaron Holland, Darragh Cusack, Ronan Whyte, Mark Gleeson and Shane Hourihane battled against each other in the same format used in International events.
Aaron Hill from the Crucible is leading the way after day 1 with two wins from three matches and a total of 10 frames, close behind is Ross Bulman from Youghal with two wins and a total of 8 frames won.
Phase two of the event will be held on Sunday 8th Of October and it promises to be an exciting day 2 and day 3 to see who ears their spot for the European U-21’s in Croatia next February.

Merrigan wins Under 21 Open
RIBSA also held an Under 21 Open Tour event to encourage more juniors to enter a national event and this was a big success on the day with young Daniel Merrigan from Roadstone winning the title.
The high break was won by Sean King from Maynooth with a 43 break. Daniel Merrigan from Roadstone, Aaron Smith from Potters, Dylan Shaughnessy from Crucible and Leone Crowley from Shooters reached the semi-finals with tremendous performances on the day.
In the semis Daniel Merriagn beat Aaron Smith 3-1 and Dylan Shaughnessy beat Leone Crowley 3-1 to set up the final between Daniel Merrigan and Dylan Shaughnessy.
It was the first time either player had reached a RIBSA final and both players played outstanding snooker but it was Daniel who potted the vital balls to record a memorable victory for the young Dubliner to lift his maiden title.
