Day 3 was the final day of group matches in the 2017 World IBSF Under 21 Snooker Championships here in Beijing China. Only Noel Landers has qualified for the Knock out stages later on tonight. Shane Bates, Aaron Holland, Darragh Cusack and Ronan Whyte are all knocked out.
Today Ronan Whyte played his final match against Mikey Stewart from New Zealand but the Northwest SC player found himself 3 nil down but fought back to level the match but he lost the decider to lose 3-4 . Darragh Cusack beat Eduardo DeSiqueira from Brazil 4 frames to nil in his final group match with a top break of 48. Noel Landers played excellent to beat Mehrab Soltanali from Iran 4 frames to nil to seal his qualification from the group which included a top break of 69.
Shane Bates played Keishin Kamihashi from Japan and despite winning both of his matches a defeat and other results would mean that the Wexford man would be out if he lost 0-4, 1-4, 2-4. Shane went 2 nil down but won the third frame, he then lost the next to go 1-3 down. Shane knew he needed a minimum of three frames to ensure qualification. The Wexford man dug deep to win a great fifth frame to close the gap to 2-3 down but the Japanese player played an excellent frame to win the frame to guarantee his place in the knock outs.
Noel will play at 7pm against No.6 seed Jed Mann from England
