The RIBSA Ladies 6 reds Championship took place in Newbridge CYMS on Sunday 12th March. Matches were played on a round-robin basis, with each player playing all other players 3 frames. There was a tight finish at the end with Catherine Fitzsimons being the first to book her place in the final with some great play in the round-robin stages, having beaten both Claire Mill and Michelle Sherwin 2-1. Tanya O’Neill and Leah Brady also played well in their first ever 6 reds event. Both ladies impressed pushing the seasoned players all the way in a good few frames.
The other finalists place was between Michelle Sherwin and Claire Mill. In the final match of the round-robin stage, Michelle beat Claire by 3-0 to claim her place in the final with Catherine.
Michelle got off to a good start winning the first frame well. Catherine took an early 17 point lead in the 2nd frame, Michelle clawed her way back to tie the scores coming to the colours. Michelle then led by 8 after Catherine fouled twice, but Catherine potted a lovely yellow to brown to lead by 1. Michelle then took on a long blue to the corner and potted a good pink to the centre pocket to win the frame and take a 2-0 lead. The 3rd frame was close throughout, towards the end Michelle got the edge on Catherine and closed out the frame on the blue to win the frame and title.
The ladies were delighted to welcome R.I.B.S.A. president Mr Eamon Kearns to the event, and he presented the perpetual champions cup to Michelle and trophies to both ladies.
The ladies would like to congratulate Leah Brady on her recent engagement.
Huge thanks go to Leo and everyone at Newbridge for their kindness and help on the day.
