After a very long day on day one of the 2017 EBSA Under 18 Snooker Championships in the Hilton Hotel Nicosia in Cyprus, all 4 Irish players have qualified for the knock out stages on Tuesday, but star of the day was 15year old Aaron Hill who knocked in the current tournament high break, with a superb 102 break in what was only his second ever International match.
Ross Bulman had two good wins from his two matches today against Kirill Petrov from Russia 3-1 and Liam Graham from Scotland 3-0. His final group match Ross beat Matei Rosca from Romania 3-0 with a top break of 72 and he awaiting the knock out draw.
Aaron Hill played all his three matches today, he lost his first match to Ben Mertens from Belgium 0-3, but then beat Iulian Boiko from Ukraine 3-1 with a stunning 102 break. In his final match he played against Niel Vincent from France and the Corkman ended the day of a big high winning 3-1 to qualify for the knock outs.
Noel Landers started off with a 3-2 victory over Nicolas Mortreux from France, he then beat Martin Kollar from Slovakia 3-0 and his final group match Noel beat Patrik Tiihonen from Finland 3 frames to 1 in a excellent match.
Mark Gleeson played all his three matches today. He started off in style beating Hadar Lifshitz from Israel 3-0 and in the next match he went 2-0 up against Marius Stanaitis from Lithuania only to see his opponent come back to win 3-2. In his final match against Michał Kotiuk from Poland. The Nenagh man played great but was beaten 3-1 but Mark still qualifies for the knock outs tomorrow.
All the boys are playing great snooker as the standard is very high this year but our National Coach PJ Nolan said he was very proud of all the players on Day 1 and they are representing their country with pride.
