Shane Bates from Liam Mellows SC in Wexford town won the first IBSF / RIBSA U-21 Snooker Ranking event of the season in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow on Sunday the 8th of January.
In the final Shane beat Noel Landers from Youghal CYMS 3 frames to 1 in a superb match. Shane now qualifies to play in the 2017 World IBSF Under 21 Snooker Championship in China in July.
In the semi-finals Noel Landers beat Adam Fitzgerald 3-0 while Shane Bates beat Andrew Doherty 3-1 in the other semi-final. The highest Tournament break was 62 by Noel Landers.
The winner of each RIBSA U-21 event and the National U-21 Championship this season will receive a place at the World U-21 Championships. Shane will now attend training at the other event to prepare for China with our National Coach PJ Nolan.

Our National Coach PJ Nolan was the Tournament Director and all the matches will be the best of 5 frames including the final. The action started at 10.30am. RIBSA would like to thank the Ivy Rooms and Paddy Hanifin for making the event a big success.
Format for U-21 Snooker 2016/2017
The entry fee is €10.00. Registration Fee U-21 €10.00 and U-16’s €5.00 – Proof of age required.
Three RIBSA U-21 ranking events will be held before December for the European U-21 Championship. Three more U-21 events plus the National U-21 Championship will be held in 2017 with each winner receiving a ticket to the World U-21 Championships. They will be joined by the highest ranked player on the U-21 rankings at the end of the season if extra players are needed.
Please note : The closing date for all RIBSA Under Age Tournaments will be 1pm on the Friday before the tournament. Waistcoats are required for all events however National waistcoats are not permitted.
Play will begin at 10.30am and the Draw will be on the RIBSA Web Site @ 3pm
