We are now into Day 6 of the 2016 IBSF World Snooker Championships in the Al-Sadd Stadium in Doha and this where the final group placing’s are being decided. For the first time all eight RIBSA players Dylan Rees, TJ Dowling, Jason Devaney, Michael Judge, Tom O Driscoll, Shane Gorman, Paula Judge and Brendan Thomas were in action today and they have all have qualified for the knock out stages.
First in was Dylan Rees and he beat Welangoda DeSilva from Sri Lanka 3 frames to nil in the 10am session and Dylan plays his last match at 10am tomorrow. Next in was TJ Dowling and again TJ was in good form with a 4-0 victory over Hisham Nadi from Egypt to win his group with 4 wins.
Tom O Driscoll played highly rated Pakistan player Naveen Perwani in his last group match. Tom won the opening frame only to see his opponent level at 1-1. Tom then lost the third and fourth to lose 1-3 but the Waterford man qualifies.
Shane Gorman played Jahangir Habibzadehdehkordi from Iran in his last group match and the Laois man emerged victories 3 frames to nil to qualify for the knock out stages.
Jason Devaney needed to win is last group match to qualify and the Mayo man kept his promise to beat Matthew Scarborough from New Zealand 4 frames to 0. he is now in the draw for the knock outs and the confidence is back. Paula Judge played her final group match today and she beat Aleksandra Bogatyreva from Russia 3 frames to nil. The Dubliner is enjoying her first world championships and is full of confidence ahead of the knock outs.
Unbeaten players Brendan Thomas and Karim Abdelmeguid from Egypt battled it out to see who wins their group tonight after both players had won their four other matches. The match was tied at 2-2 and it came down to the pink and black in the decider, Karim potted a fantastic pink to win the match 3-2. Brendan finishes second in the group.
Michael Judge played his final group match and the ex pro played great snooker to record his third straight victory with a 4-0 win over Abdullah Alsuwaidi from Qatar. Michael now wins his group and is looking forward to the knock outs.
