After a long day of top class Junior Snooker only one Irish junior is standing in the last 32 in the World IBSF U-21 Snooker Championship here in Mol in Belgium.
Adam Fitzgerald played superb today when he beat highly rated Niel Vincent from France 4 frames to nil. Adam will now play Ben Fortey from Wales tomorrow morning. Fitzgerald won the first three frames in style and stole the fourth on the black to reach the last 32 round.
Earlier in the day Charlie Sweeney was beaten by Michael Schnabel from Germany. The Newbridge man led 2-0 but his opponent fought back to win the next four to knock him out.
Noel Landers went 3-0 down to Patrik Tiihonen from Finland but the Youghal potter fought back to 2-3 before his opponent made a 55 frame winning break to seal victory 4-2.
Wexford man Shane Bates was beaten by Chris Peplow from Malta 0-4 as his Maltese opponent stole two of the fames in the match to knock the Wexford man.
As National Coach I am very proud of all the players but we were not sharp enough today. We will now cheer on Adam Fitzgerald tomorrow at 10am in the Last 32 and if he wins he will play the last 16 at 2pm and the Q-Final at 6pm.
