Charlie Sweeney from Newbridge CYMS won the final IBSF Under 21 RIBSA Snooker Ranking event in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow on Saturday the 24th of May. In the final Charlie beat Fergal Quinn 3 frames to 0 in a superb final.
In the Semi finals Number 1 seed Charlie Sweeney from Newbridge CYMS 3 played Stephen Bateman from Kilkenny Shed and Number 2 Seed Fergal Quinn from Coalisland played Aaron Holland from Joeys. Charlie beat Stephen 3 frames to 2 and Fergal beat Aaron 3 frames to 0 in two excellent matches.
Charlie will now receive a place at the World IBSF Under 21 Championship in Belgium and at the Home Internationals in Leeds in August 2016.
PJ Nolan was the Tournament Director on the day and all matches were the best of 5 frames. He said all the players were excellent today and with Noel Landers, Adam Fitzgerald, Shane Bates and now Charlie Sweeney playing in the World U-21’s this year the future is looking really good for Irish Snooker.
