Rees wins National Intermediate 4 – Celbridge S C
Event 4 of the 2015/6 National Intermediate Tour was hosted by Celbridge S C on Sat. 2nd January with 46 entries. players to show good early form were Philip Burke from Ennis and Colm McDonagh from Sligo, Philip leads the high break competition with an excellent 96.
Philip O’Connor was first into the Quarter finals over coming number 2 seed Colvin O’Brien. Dylan Rees equalled the high break in his Q-final win over James Higgins. Dylan will meet Charlie Sweeney from Newbridge and Philip O’Connor from D’Arcy McGees will play Andrew Doherty from NUI Maynooth in the semis.
After the first two frames were shared Dylan’s superior experience proved too much for Charlie, Dylan winning 3 frames to 1. The other semi was a tighter affair with the advantage swinging one way then the next, Andrew potted the black in frame 4 to also record a 4 – 1 result.
In the final Dylan raced into a 2 – 0 lead before Andrew hit back to take frames 3 and 4 to force a decider. The final frame proved to be a very nervous affair which Dylan Won on the colours to record his second Intermediate win of the season. He also shared the High Break prize with Philip Burke.
Tournament Director Tony Thorpe thanked Phil Martin and James Geraghty for looking after everyone so well and look forward to holding further events in Celbridge in the future. Tony also paid tribute to tournament referee Shane Mason for all his help.
