The 2015 Friendship Cup was held over the weekend in the atmospheric Youghal CYMS Clubhouse overlooking beautiful Youghal harbour. The competition commenced on Friday afternoon with teams from Newbridge CYMS, Roadstone and the home club vying to lift the Cup on Saturday night. After some excellent play in the groups Roadstone defeated Newbridge 3 – 2 in the 1st semi and Youghal “B” overcame Youghal “A” by a similar score in the 2nd. In the final the superior fitness and stamina of the young Yoghal “B” team was too much for the more mature Roadstone masters (apologies to Daniel Merrigan).
Brendan Cooney and his team at Youghal CY must be commended for the professional and friendly manner in which the whole event was staged. But a word of warning, Do not play in this event if you are in any way sensitive or effected by banter.
Presenting the Cup Brendan paid tribute all the competitors and thanked Rhishenda (manager of The Quay’s Bar) for once again supporting this wonderful competition. Just to emphasise how well run it was run the presentation ended just in time to make it accross the road to the Quay’s for the champion’s League final and the ensuing celebration’s. A fantastic night was had. Many thanks to Rhishenda and all the staff at The Quays Bar for your hospitality and service over the weekend. From all in Newbridge CYMS and Roadstone S C.
Can’t wait for next year.
