Rodney Goggins won the 6th RIBSA ranking event of the season ‘ The RIBSA Grand Prix ‘ in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow today. The 147 Club Wexford man beat Brendan O Donoghue from the New Institute SC in Nenagh 4 frames to 3 in a superb final.
Rodney Goggins had a smooth run to the final with the exception of his encounter with Josh Boileau where Rodney had to work hard to etch out a 3/2 victory. His other victim on the day, of the number one ranked player were Charlie Sweeney, James Bateman and John Sutton who all went down without taking a frame.
In the bottom half Brendan O Donoghue had a rocky start against Adam Nolan but took the match in the 5th frame and went on to defeat Philip Brown and David Cassidy 3/1 on both matches. In the semi final he came up against another tough opponent in Robert Murphy who took him all the way, but the dogged Brendan came through 3/2.
The final got started about 9.30pm and was a nip and tuck affair all the way to the deciding frame with Rodney scoring a 111 break in the 5 frame. In the final frame both players had chances but could not finish the frame on their visit’s to the table. It eventually came all the way down to the Black ball where the safety play was enthralling but Rodney finished the frame with an excellent long black down the cushion. Congratulations to Rodney Goggins on his 3rd Senior win out of 6 for the 2014/15 season.
