The North West Open was held this Sunday the 22nd February 2015. There was an excellent entry of 30 players taking part on the day from both sides of the border. Some of the notable first round dropouts were Benny O Brien (seeded 8) and Ronan Whyte, all first round losers move to the Plate competition.
The players who progressed to the Quarter finals were Aidan Devenney (North West) who defeated Paul Corrie (Cookstown) 3/1 and Peter Donegan (North West) lost out to club-mate Anthony Bonnar 3/1. This was an interesting game as these two players will play together in the European Masters Championship in Malta at the end of March.
In the bottom half Christopher Gibbons (CYMS Letterkenny) advanced past his club-mate Phoelim Mc Clafferty 3/1. John Connors (CYMS) squeezed past North West’s Sean Mc Veigh 3/2 to set up an all North West top half and all CYMS bottom half.
In the top half the in-form Aidan Devenney marched to the final at the expense of Anthony Bonnar 3/1 and the other finalist was Christopher Gibbons who defeated John Connors 3/2
In the final Aidan Devenney continued his good form of the weekend with a 3/1 victory. This was the second final for Aidan in two days, congratulations to Aidan. The high breaks for the tournament were John Connors 98, Aidan Devenney 97, 85, 71, 60, Peter Donegan 79, 60, Sean Mc Veigh 70, 68,58 and Ronan Whyte 52, 49.
The Plate tournament was won by Benny O Brien from Kilkenny who defeated James Winters from Cookstown 3 frames to 1.
North West Snooker Club would like to wish Anthony Bonnar and Peter Donegan all the best of luck in the European Masters team Championship in Malta at the end of March.
