The last 64 of the Men’s European Snooker Championships here in the Ramada Hotel in Bulgaria was played this morning with three victories for our Irish stars. Jason Devaney, Rodney Goggins and Josh Boileau were very focused and put on good displays to move into the next round.
Up first was young Josh Boileau from Newbridge CYMS when he played Felix Frede from Germany. The Irish Number 1 Junior controlled the match with breaks of 43, 45, and 49 to dominate the match from start to finish and win 4 frames to 1. He will now face Robert Carlisle from Scotland in the last 32 tomorrow morning at 8am Irish time.
Next in was Rodney Goggins from the 147 Club in Wexford who put on a display of great match-play snooker in beating Cvetan Pavlov from Bulgaria 4 frames to nil. Rodney will face Raymond Fry from Northern Ireland in the last 32 at 10am local time.
Finally Jason Devaney from Crossmolina SC in county Mayo played good snooker in beating Rares Sinca from Romania 4 frames to nil. Jason had 42, 45, 46 and 49 to set up a last 32 match against Antonis Poullos from Cyprus or Barseg Petrosyan from Russia at 8am Irish time.
As National Coach I could not have asked for more from the boys. The players will be fully focused tomorrow and we are now getting ready to cheer on our Master players who play at 1pm Irish time.
Come On Ireland!!!!
