Wexford man Shane Bates from the 147 Club in Wexford won the RIBSA Under 18 National Snooker Championship in the Ivy Rooms in Carlow on Saturday. In the final Shane beat Charlie Sweeney, from Newbridge CYMS who is the current U-16 National Champion 3 frames to 2 to claim the title.
It has been a fantastic season for the Wexford man, who already claimed the number 1 position in the RIBSA Under 19’s Rankings. Shane will also be captain of the Under 19 Irish Team for the Home Internationals, when they will be played in August, held in the Northern Snooker Centre, Leeds.
This is the third national title for the young Slaneyside potter, after he won the Under 14’s in 2011 and Under 16’s in 2013 and now the Under 18’s.. RIBSA would like to Thank Ger Murray, Don O Donoghue and the Ivy Rooms in making the event such a success.
