The Connacht Club Championships took place at the North West Snooker Club last weekend, there was a total of 7 club teams in the tournament. Some new clubs like Kiltullagh from Galway and lots of old faces appearing on the day. Lots of new young players especially from the North West club with a 12 year old 2, 13 year olds and a 14 year old on the team.
Group one had Tuam A, Ballina and Mechanics in it, this group was basically a shootout for first place between Tuam A and Ballina, with Ballina coming out in first place and Tuam in second.
Group two was headed by CYMS from Letterkenny who were too strong for the other team’s and topped the group. Tuam B came second in the group and Kiltullagh third.
In the semi finals Ballina A defeated Tuam B and Tuam A defeated CYMS to go into the final. Ballina A were too strong for the reigning champions Tuam A in the final and so Ballina A were crowned Connacht champions for 2014.
The fifth place was taken be Kiltullagh in a playoff. The young North West team had some good games in their debut tournament taking two of the matches to the last frame but could not cross the line. This young team will be one to look out for in the future.
Thanks to John Doherty and his staff at the North West Club for the use of the facilities and taking such good care of all the players at the tournament.
