Saturday saw the staging of the Inaugural Finbarr Ruane Snr Memorial Cup at CrossGuns in Dublin. Limited to just 32 players the handicap event drew a strong field included top Irish internationals and ex professionals such as David Hogan, Rodney Goggins, Joe Delaney, Colm Gilcreest , John Sutton ,Michael Judge , Tj Dowling Robbie Murphy,Johnny Williams , Stephen Murphy ,George Tierney and exciting junior talent Jason O’Hagan who was making his senior tournament debut. The action kicked off at 10am and ended over 12 hours later when John Sutton of Celbridge defeated Darren Savage of Terry Rodgers in the final. It was nearly a fantastic double for Darren as earlier that morning he was part of the winning Terry Rodgers team that retained the DBSL Premier League Cup in the Cup final in Roadstone. Overall John Sutton played the best snooker on the day and was a worthy winner of the €1,000 first prize and the Memorial Cup. Personally I would like to thank all the players who entered and for making the tournament a fitting tribute to the late Fin Snr a two term RIBSA president and patron of Irish Snooker for many years. I look forward to hosting the event again next May. Results Semi Finals Darren Savage 3 Gary Ryan 1 John Sutton 3 Keith Sheldreck 2 Highest Break Michael Judge 105 Regards Fin
