The final ladies ranking event of the season took place on Sunday 10th March in Q’s SC Clondalkin. With 1st and 2nd in the rankings being sewn up already, there was still a hot battle for the number 3 spot between Michelle French and Sandra Ward, who are only separated by a couple of merit points. Michelle was drawn against no. 2 Claire Mill, and although the frames were all very close, Michelle failed to close one out and take at least some valuable merit points from the match, score Claire Mill 3-0.
The other semi-final seen Sandra Bryan taking on Michelle Sherwin. There was nothing to pick between them in frame 1, when Michelle got an fluke which swung the frame in her favour and she won the frame from there. From there on in Michelle got an inordinate run of the ball; everything she hit went right for her. Michelle won the match 3-0, but that did not really reflect the match.
Michelle was very focused for the final as she wanted to finish out the season unbeaten. Claire played very well, but Michelle made sure to leave her very few opportunities to score, and Michelle took every opportunity to score points and then put Claire under pressure with some great safety play. She kept this tactic up throughout the match and won the match 3-0 with a nice 32 clearance to the green in the final frame. The ladies would like to thank Chris from Q’s for providing the facilities for the day.
The trophies were presented to the ladies by shift manager Dualta O’Neill. The ladies are now looking forward to the National 6 Reds Championship in Celbridge Snooker Club on Saturday 27th April.
