Vincent Muldoon was crowned the 2012 Irish Champion after a convincing 10-5 victory over Martin McCrudden in the Northwest Snooker Club in Letterkenny today. Muldoon reached the final after some very good wins on Saturday over Robert Redmond and Johnny Williams and he brought that form into todays final to win his third Irish title.
The final started with the two players sharing the first four frames with several breaks over 70 in a 40 minute potting blitz. The interval obviously helped Muldoon as he rattled off five frames on the spin with high runs of 53 and 68. McCrudden did rally however and took the next three to cut down the deficit to only two frames.
A 76 in the next frame saw Muldoon extend his lead again and took the next also to leave him only one frame from victory. The final frame saw McCrudden chip the white going for a red down the cushion and Muldoon didn’t nead another invitation to knock in a 60 break to seal the victory and title.
Scores: McCrudden – Muldoon :: 56-68(51) ; 75(75)-0 ; 1-78(78) ; 123(48,75)-0; 55-66; 68-75 (53); 50 (50)- 68 (68); 38 46; 52-58; 65-11; 64-18; 73-31 ; 27-77(76) ; 30-69 ; 16-90 (60)
Muldoon will now join Goggins in Egypt this November for the IBSF World Championships but will now travel to New York to take up a apprentice on Wall Street for the next three months. The presentation is also available to view at the bottom of this page.
All in all a great weekend in Letterkenny and some superb snooker played over the two days. We also had the Intermediate final today but unfortunately George Tierney was a no show and Andrew Yeates was crowned 2012 Irish Intermediate Champion. Pictured below
