The New Institute Snooker club hosted the Munster Intermediate Snooker Tournament on Saturday the 15th October with players from the following clubs Ennis, A.O.H., Cork, Thurles and Nenagh. There was a small turnout on the day.
Format for the Tournament:
Results of early round matches:
Patsy Farrell – V – Freddie Tuite (3 – 0)
Andrew McCluskey – V – Tony Moore (1 – 3)
Ger Delaney – V – Kevin O’Leary (3 – 0)
Derek O’Neill – V – Lloyd Myers (1 – 3)
These results set up some interesting clashes in the next round.
Tony Moore – V – Arthur Greer (3 – 0)
Lloyd Myers – V – Albert Hogan (3 – 1)
Semi-Finals.
Tony Moore – V – Ger Delaney (2 – 3)
Ger Delaney races into a 2 nil lead. Moore fought back to level the match at 2 all and looked a very strong favourite
going into the final frame. Unfortunately, Delaney dug deep in a very exciting last frame.
The other semi-final was between Lloyd Myers and Patsy Farrell.
Patsy Farrell – V- Lloyd Myers (3 – 1)
This was also a good game. With scores level at 1 all, Farrell hit a rich vein of form, hitting a 40 and a 50 in
one frame, showing some of his old touches from years gone by.
Patsy Farrell V Ger Delaney (1 – 3)
This set up an all Tipperary Final with Ger Delaney versus Patsy Farrell. Ger 3, Patsy 0. The big turning point in this match was frame 1, with an outrageous fluke on the final black. After this, Farrell seemed to be playing catchup for most of the match. Farrell losing out in both of the
remaining 2 frames on blue balls, after Delaney playing some very exciting snooker. It is noted that Ger who now turns
40, is eligible for the over 40 Tournaments and is someone to keep and eye on in the future.
After the final, Farrell complimented Ger on his outstanding performance during the day and thanked everyone for travelling long journeys.
Great praise was given on the standards and table conditions in the New Institute.
A word of thanks to Mark Tuite on travelling from Killarney on the day. Looking forward to the next Tournament.
